
Mia L. Geisinger
Dr. Mia L. Geisinger, DDS, MS
Mia is a Professor, Director of Advanced Education in Periodontology, and Acting Chair of the Department of Periodontology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and currently serves as President of the American Academy of Periodontology. Dr. Geisinger earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from Columbia University and her MS and Certificate in Periodontology and Implantology from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
She brings extensive leadership experience, having served as Chair of the American Dental Association’s Council on Scientific Affairs, a member of the Board of Directors of the ADA Science and Research Institute, and President of the AAP Foundation. She has authored over 80 peer-reviewed publications and serves on the editorial boards of several leading dental journals. Her research focuses on the relationship between periodontal and systemic health, regenerative therapies, and the clinical application of emerging technologies in periodontology and implant dentistry.
As a member of the Oral Reconstruction Foundation’s Advisory Board, Mia provides scientific guidance, research and education support, strategic insights, and stakeholder engagement—helping to ensure the Foundation’s activities remain at the forefront of innovation and global relevance in oral reconstruction.
