
Mariano Sanz

Mariano is a globally recognized leader in periodontology and dental education. He earned his Medical Degree, PhD in Medicine, and Specialization in Stomatology from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), where he has served since 1989 as Professor and Chairman of Periodontology. He also directs the ETEP Research Group and the postgraduate program in Periodontology, accredited by the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP).
He trained in Periodontology at UCLA and is currently also a Professor at the University of Oslo. He holds six honorary doctorates from leading institutions across Europe and Latin America and has served as Dean of UCM, as well as President of the Spanish Society of Periodontology, the European Federation of Periodontology, and the Continental European Division of the IADR.
With over 500 peer-reviewed publications and an h-index of 81, he is widely respected for his contributions to research in periodontology and implant dentistry.
Mariano served as President of the Oral Reconstruction Foundation from 2021 to early 2024. He continues to play a key role within the organization as a member of the Board of Trustees and as Chair of the Research Committee.
